What Our Students Are Saying

If you’re struggling to start and it feels overwhelming

This might sound familiar…

You’ve tried yoga before but it was hard, so you didn’t stick with it

You feel out of shape and the thought of moving feels a bit scary

You’re unsure if yoga is right or safe for you due to your health, old injuries or ongoing pain.

You’re so busy doing everything else that you aren’t making time for yourself

You feel like you’re too old (you’re not!)

If only you could find a safe and inclusive space to get started without all the worry

Because there is so much yoga out there and you don’t want to waste your time and money or end up in a class you don’t like.

What if there was a way to start your yoga practice that feels easy, effortless & fun?

The truth is, with the right approach, you don’t have to be young, flexible or in perfect shape to get into things

You can start right away with a yoga practice that meets you where YOU are and gives you exactly what you need.

For the last few years I had always wanted to learn yoga, but was nervous to try as a mature beginner. Following a knee injury I finally decided it was time. Charley (and her other teachers) have been wonderful, warm, welcoming and very helpful as I have attended class for almost a year now. My knees are strengthening and my flexibility improving. Commencing class at Charleyoga is one of the best decisions I have made.

That’s why I created our

Gentle Therapeutic Yoga Classes in Applecross, Bateman, Hilton & Online

Yoga classes for everyday people who want to befriend their body & mind without the ‘one size fits all’ competitive vibe

I’ve taken everything I’ve learned from 35+ years of my own yoga practice & 20+ years of teaching to develop our yoga classes that run as terms in friendly groups.

Our Gentle Therapeutic Approach

Isn’t about complicated moves that you must learn and remember or boring sequences that we repeat continually

It’s easy to follow along with lots of variations so you will always feel like you CAN do it and will quickly feel the benefits of yoga for yourself.

I LOVE Charleyoga! My partner and I have been attending classes with Charley since 2006. Charley’s routines, meditation and relaxation sessions have kept us moving and feeling good for all those years. She is able to attend to individuals who have an injury or ill health, as well as keep an eye on the class.  I love the pace of the classes, the structure and variety of movements – each one can be adapted to suit physical limitations, or you can push yourself too! Flexibility, strength and relaxation – it’s 5 stars for Charley!.”

Throughout the months, Charley has guided and helped me to develop my confidence. As a result, I will not miss a class because I now will happily give everything a go…..sometimes laughing out loud at my attempts. She is always there, encouraging, teaching, laughing with me, never at me. Charley, you are a super teacher. Thank you for the best year! I am so looking forward to the next.

So, who am I to be telling you how to practice yoga?

I’m Charley Hickey, yoga therapist and long-time meditator located in Fremantle, Western Australia. I’m the Founder of Charleyoga, and passionate about making yoga easy and enjoyable, so you can enjoy the benefits to your body and mind on a regular basis.

I get really excited about sharing these classes that I’ve developed over the past 20+ years. I know what works and how to build yoga practices that work for all kinds of different bodies, ages and stages.   It’s yoga that feels easy and meets you where you’re at. It’s how yoga was always intended to be practiced.

I understand what it’s like for things to get overwhelming and for self-care activities to go by the wayside from time to time.  I’m a busy business owner, Mum, wife and Nana amongst other things so I really do get it.

Yoga has helped me to manage the effects of insomnia in my younger years and chronic migraines.   It also helps me to be resilient in the face of change and reduce angry outbursts that I regret later (it’s not just my hair that’s fiery by nature!)

I’ve studied yoga and meditation extensively over my lifetime.  I continue to take inspiration from those who are walking this path alongside me.

Some of my relevant studies & professional registrations include:

  • Functional Aging Specialist Trainer (ISSA Certified)
  • Postgraduate Certificate Yoga Therapy (Wisdom Yoga Institute)
  • Meditation Facilitator Certified
  • Yoga Philosophy (Oxford University Centre for Hindu Studies)
  • Preventing Chronic Pain Specialisation (University of Minnesota)
  • Mental Health First Aid Certificate (University of Melbourne)
  • Yoga Teaching Certificate (400 hours)
  • Cert III Fitness, self-myofascial release, Pilates matwork
  • Certified Member International Association of Yoga Therapists
  • Senior Member Yoga Australia & committee member 2012-2020
  • Writer for Yoga Today Magazine (Yoga Australia Publication)

We’d love to have you along to our yoga classes where you will befriend your body, learn about yourself, develop lifelong skills for managing the impacts of stress, and connect with like-minded people. Spaces fill very quickly for our terms so booking is essential.

It is one of the highlights of my week. I always leave class feeling better than when I arrived! Charley and all of the instructors are nurturing, highly professional, and always provide options for those that may need alternatives either to increase the challenge or to reduce the intensity. I have invited several friends to join Charleyoga and they have all felt the same as I do. Very highly recommended.

Foot Stretches & Releases
I have injury or health concerns

Sorry to hear that but have no fear, nothing scares us! We’re very used to adapting things to all kinds of common bodily restrictions, health concerns and chronic conditions.  If you’d like to chat to us first, please get in touch.  Here is a link to a letter  (opens in new window) you can show your health practitioner if you would like to get their clearance to start yoga with us.  Be sure to show them the letter as not all styles of yoga are as suitable as ours for post-recovery!

What age groups do you cater to?

We are not ageist so don’t have classes that cater to specific age groups. However, I can tell you that we have plenty of retirees in our classes alongside younger people who want or need a gentler practice.  Our teachers are trained to teach all age groups over 18 years.

What class type should I choose?

Any on the timetable because we don’t believe in class levels!  You will learn to confidently work to your own level. Each class is a little different depending on what we’re working on so there is lots of variety!

What if I miss or need to switch classes?

No problem, you can catch up on classes anytime during the term, just let us know. Other options are catching up live online or with the included 24/7 online library access.

Can I attend on a casual basis or try a class first?

We prioritise term bookings as many classes book out before term starts.  However, we do take casual bookings once the term is underway but just can’t guarantee space and the pricing is different for that.

All the teachers are exceptional giving variations for different abilities. The classes are always friendly and varied. I have been attending for about 5 years now and each class introduces something new. I thoroughly recommend Charleyoga for anyone.
